CARMINA

Plump black cherry and saffron open sharp and fruity before Rose de Mai takes the centre, then myrrh, frankincense and cashmere wood pull the whole thing into something warmer and drier.

SECTION 01 · PORTRAIT

Creed's rose, dressed in black cherry and couture.

Carmina was built around haute couture sketches by Henry Creed found in the house's original Paris maison, and it wears that reference literally — a raspberry-hued bottle and a rose treated as the centrepiece of a composition rather than a soliflore. Black cherry and saffron open it fruity and sharp; myrrh, frankincense and cashmere wood close it warm.

A rose sketched in couture lines rather than grown in a garden.

THREE MOMENTS, ONE EVOLVING SCENT

See how the fragrance changes.

Atmospheric interpretation of it opens on fruit, not flowers.
00:00 — BLACK CHERRY AND SAFFRON

It opens on fruit, not flowers.

Plump black cherry arrives first, dark and faintly powdery rather than syrupy, with pink pepper adding a piquant edge. Saffron warms it from underneath — Creed's own copy calls this the 'sultry seduction' of the opening.

FRUITYDARKPIQUANT
Atmospheric interpretation of the couture heart: rose, peony and cashmere wood.
00:40 — ROSE DE MAI AND VIOLET

The couture heart: rose, peony and cashmere wood.

Rose de Mai — the May rose Creed sources as one of its signature materials — takes the centre, flanked by peony and violet. Cashmere wood is already threaded through here rather than waiting for the base, which is what gives the heart its slightly powdery, upholstered quality.

ROSEPOWDERYFLORAL
Atmospheric interpretation of the drydown turns resinous and dry.
03:00 — MYRRH, FRANKINCENSE AND AMBER

The drydown turns resinous and dry.

Myrrh and frankincense arrive together, adding a dry, faintly church-like resin that cuts against the fruit entirely. Ambroxan and musk broaden it into something diffusive and long-lasting, and it's also where the composition divides opinion most sharply — the drydown can read closer to synthetic amber than to a classical resin.

CREED CREDITS THE HOUSE, NOT AN INDIVIDUAL NOSE

The house behind Carmina

Creed's official material for Carmina credits the house rather than a named perfumer, consistent with how the maison presents its work across the line. The composition takes its brief from haute couture fashion sketches by Henry Creed, discovered in the house's original Paris maison — the raspberry hue of the bottle and the fragrance's name both come from that source.

“Carmina is a sensual celebration of feminine allure, captured through exquisite Rose de Mai and luxurious cashmere wood.”
