SECTION 01 · PORTRAIT

The most fatal of all flowers, and Dominique Ropion knows it.

Carnal Flower doesn't ease into tuberose — it opens on eucalyptus and melon, green and almost medicinal, before the flower itself arrives at a concentration few perfumes attempt. Coconut and ylang ylang thicken it further, and by the drydown, musk has turned the whole thing milky rather than sweet. This is tuberose with its guard up, not tuberose as a compliment.

A flower that arrives dressed as innocence and leaves as something else entirely.

THREE MOMENTS, ONE EVOLVING SCENT

See how the fragrance changes.

Atmospheric interpretation of it opens green, not floral.
00:00 — EUCALYPTUS AND MELON

It opens green, not floral.

Eucalyptus arrives first, sharp and almost medicinal, with galbanum's bitter-green edge right behind it. Melon and bergamot cut through the green with a watery freshness, but nothing here reads as an invitation — it's more like standing too close to crushed leaves.

00:30 — TUBEROSE AT FULL VOLUME

The flower Dominique Ropion spent two years perfecting.

Tuberose arrives dense and unfiltered, closer to the living flower than any polite floral accord. Coconut and ylang ylang thicken it into something almost tropical, while jasmine adds an indolic hum underneath — this is tuberose with its full animalic register left in, not smoothed over.

DENSETROPICALINDOLIC
Atmospheric interpretation of the camphor fades; what's left is soft.
03:00 — MILK, MUSK AND AMBER

The camphor fades; what's left is soft.

The sharper green and camphorous facets thin out here, and white musk takes over — turning the tuberose's remaining trail milky rather than sweet. A faint amber warmth and animal-note undertone keep it from reading as clean laundry musk; this drydown still remembers what came before it.

DOMINIQUE ROPION BUILT THIS TUBEROSE TO KEEP ITS DARKER HALF

The perfumer behind the tuberose

Dominique Ropion spent over two years developing Carnal Flower's tuberose accord, using a far higher concentration of natural tuberose absolute than most perfumes attempt. Rather than soften the flower's animalic undertone, he kept it deliberately intact — pairing it with green eucalyptus and coconut so the composition holds onto both the innocent and the carnal halves of tuberose at once.

“Among all the flowers, this is certainly the most fatal.”

Amouage Love Hibiscus bottle

@Marta yes, two sprays were plenty for me too. the eucalyptus felt almost minty for the first half hour, then the tuberose turned creamy and a little humid, like flowers inside a greenhouse. I liked the musky part much more than the opening but I wouldnt wear this on a packed tram in July.

Maison Crivelli Musc Nurāsana bottle

first spray was almost medicinal on me, loads of eucalyptus and cold green leaves. The tuberose came in big after maybe 20 minutes but the coconut keeps it creamy not sweet. after 3 hours it was softer and musky, still projecting from just two sprays. Beautiful but I wouldnt wear it in a small office.
