Radical Rose starts from a single idea Aurélien Guichard calls "an overdose of Rose Absolute" — the highest concentration of Rose Centifolia Absolute the house could work with, extracted from roses he grows organically on his own Grasse farm. Matière Première publishes no note pyramid here, describing instead a creative approach: brighten the rose with saffron and pepper, then darken it with patchouli and labdanum.

ONE COMPOSITION

Rose at the centre, brightened and then darkened.

The house's own copy frames this as a sequence of creative decisions rather than a staged pyramid: start from an overdose of Rose Centifolia Absolute, Guichard's main ingredient and the fragrance's whole reason for existing. From there, saffron and Jamaican pepper berries essence exacerbate the rose's bright, spicy facets, while Indonesian patchouli essence and Andalusian labdanum absolute highlight its dark, woody side. The rose moves from peppery and bright, through spicy and earthy, into mossy and ambery, without ever being presented by the brand as formally timed stages.

Aurélien Guichard comes from seven generations of perfumers and founded Matière Première on the idea of building fragrances around a single raw material pushed to its fullest expression. For Radical Rose, that material is his own organically grown Rose Centifolia Absolute from Grasse, used at the highest concentration the house has worked with, then shaped rather than staged with saffron, pepper, patchouli and labdanum.
