Gris Charnel opens dry rather than sweet — black tea and fig read closer to a smoky café than a fruit bowl, with cardamom keeping it sharp. Iris and vetiver take over next, powdery and a little cold, before sandalwood and tonka bean settle the whole thing into something warm without ever tipping into gourmand.

THREE MOMENTS, ONE EVOLVING SCENT
Black tea arrives first, dry and faintly bitter, with fig reading more green than jammy alongside it. Cardamom threads through both, keeping the whole opening sharp rather than cozy.
Iris arrives powdery rather than floral, closer to cold stone than a flower. Bourbon vetiver cuts underneath it with real earthiness, and cistus adds a faint resinous shadow that keeps the whole accord from feeling flat.
Sandalwood softens the vetiver's edge into something creamy, while tonka bean adds a faint almond-like warmth without turning the drydown gourmand. What's left is quiet and skin-close — grey rather than sweet, right to the end.

Mathilde Bijaoui, a MANE perfumer since 2004, builds Gris Charnel around a deliberate contrast — powdery iris set directly against cistus's resinous shadow and vetiver's earth. Fig and black tea keep the opening dry rather than sweet, so by the time sandalwood and tonka arrive, the warmth feels earned rather than automatic.
