This is one of Boadicea's oldest fragrances, still in production since 2008, and it wears its age well. Grapefruit and bergamot open sharp and citrus-peel bitter, basil adds a green snap, and blackcurrant and geranium keep the heart from turning candy-sweet. It settles into something quiet — vetiver and clean musk, nothing showy.

THREE MOMENTS, ONE EVOLVING SCENT
Grapefruit leads, close to biting into the actual peel, with bergamot and lemon rounding it into something brighter but no less sharp. Basil and elemi cut in green and slightly resinous — this isn't a polite, fruity citrus, it's the kind that makes you notice it.
Geranium brings a rosy-green, slightly minty facet, while blackcurrant adds a dark, faintly tart fruitiness that stops well short of jammy. Together they read as a garden after rain more than a fruit bowl — the citrus is still there, but it's no longer the whole story.
By this point the citrus has mostly faded and what's left is understated: a clean, skin-close musk backed by vetiver's dry, earthy root quality. It's the least dramatic part of the fragrance, and also the part that actually lasts — wearers consistently mention this stage sticking around for most of a day.

JOHN STEPHEN KEEPS THE CITRUS HONEST
John Stephen founded the Cotswold Perfumery and has composed for Boadicea the Victorious and Electimuss London across a five-decade career. Energizer is one of his earlier Boadicea portraits, and it shows a preference for real bitterness over polish — the grapefruit here reads as actual fruit, not a smoothed-over citrus accord.
