African Leather is the fourth chapter of Aliénor Massenet's Cuirs Nomades collection for Memo Paris, following French, Italian and Irish leather, and it's Memo Paris' single most popular release. Memo stages it formally: cardamom, geranium and pink pepper open it, rose and patchouli carry the heart, leather, oud and amber close it — though the leather itself stays surprisingly quiet throughout.

THREE MOMENTS, ONE EVOLVING SCENT
Memo's own copy leads with warm, spicy cardamom and saffron-adjacent heat, immediately joined by a green, slightly floral geranium absolute from Egypt and a sparkling pink pepper CO2 extract. It reads like a spice market from the very first spray, though the brief citrus lift some retailers mention fades within the first minute.
Rose essence carries the heart, joined by Indonesian patchouli essence for earthy depth and a cinnamon essence that begins signalling the leather to come. This is the stage where the fragrance's spice-market character deepens into something more floral and grounded, before the base takes over.
Memo's official base is just three materials: a leather accord, an oud essence, and an amber accord. This is also where the fragrance divides opinion most sharply — the leather itself is unexpectedly restrained, more a memory of leather than the dark, animalic register the Cuirs Nomades name might suggest, with the amber and oud doing most of the work in the drydown.
